‘Is it a TR8?’ - Edition 2 -  Now Available

TR7 031

Hi my names Garry & I'm a TR7Oholick.................

It all started when I was a kid all my friends wanted Ferrari's Lamborghini's and so on and I just set my sights a little bit lower (but not to low...... I'm not disin the TR7) but they do harbour a little rust to say the least....

Anyway SHADOW as it seem to be known as these days reg number (SHA169W) hasn't had the best life.......pre, 2003 when I bought the car from S&S prep, it had already been involved in a little fire it came out fairly unscathed a little interior trim/paint damage and major hood damage..vandals tried to set the garage it was stored in on fire..........

little was it known that it would happen again some 7 years or so on, more on that later....

the car was some 12 years off the road 6 before I got hold of it and 6 labourous years later it was back on it again.

unfortinatley I'm not good with spanners so I had to make friends with a few garages all the basic rot areas were replaced/repared outer cills, subframe, trailing arm mounting points, rear bulkhead, turrets & tops etc.

but then as we thought it was nearly time for the spray shop,.............. The front wings both sides were pretty sound not much to worry about on the surface but what was lurking beneath well not much ..........that was the point it was in a awful state the only tell tale sign was a hole the size of a 50pence piece anyway off with wings and the inner wings inner arches repaired/re-built to brand new front wings on, windscreen finisher was also hiding quite a lot of rot, more re-building welding etc. as you can see from the photo's not your usual fix me up probably a pretty standard restoration in most peoples eyes..... although I entered in to this project that it would be quite easy to put on the road again. After all those rose tinted glasses I was wearing at the time of purchase were very good ones I'll tell ya.........

anyway the tr7 bug really got hold of me I stripped the car down ready for the body shop, A nice fresh coat of Cavalry blue paint and when I got it back I changed the wheels put on a tubular manifold & stainless steel sports exhaust ,K&N air filters, re – con. cylinder head, then engine out one re-build and an engine bay spruce up..............

The Bombshell........

the garage its stored in goes up in flames............funny how history repeats itself

and amazingly it came out unscathed some 7 months later, as the building was deemed too unsafe to enter it was a little nail biting to say the least and it had a few members or the forum sitting on the edge of there laptops in anticipation for months.

and last year it had its first appearance at Billing and enjoyed a little breakdown (or running repairs as it was described at the time) on the Sunday road run......... and will return this year with its little brother in toe one of the TR7 Pedal cars, not a complete and original one I must add , I bought it as a shabby fibreglass shell with no base so I had no option to turn it into a mini me, "THE SHADOW" lol... So it is too is Cavalry blue with matching graphics to its big brother "SHA1 69W". It sits on wheels and a chassis stolen from a kiddies 6volt push "n" go car although I haven't managed to refine it yet so it works, but it looks the part. I'm not sure how its going to get there yet. I intended to take it last year but it didn't make it, (there actually quite big 5' 3”) so this year will be different one way or another it'll be there.

Most of this has been posted on the forum at some stage or another over the past 5 years or so but not all TRDC members read the forums, so I figured it was time I bored some more lost souls.......

If you've got this far and not fallen asleep why not take a look at the photo's.
