I bought CTR 417W in 1996, I am its sixth owner and have now owned it longer than any of its
previous owners. I quickly replaced the tan interior trim with new black carpets and red check seats and door cards from an older fixed-head vehicle the remaining areas of tan vinyl being treated with
vinylcote very successfully. It was in respectable condition when I bought it but by 1999 was looking a little shabby so I decided to have it bodily restored.
All four wings were replaced along with the door skins, it was de-seamed and resprayed in Ford Radiant Red. It was previously Fiat Monza Red and the colour was surprisingly similar. All that I've done since then has been to give it a set of fifteen inch alloys from an MGF. It's on its second engine but the car has covered 150,000 miles. I've replaced the exhaust with a stainless steel sports system which consists of a Rimmers tubular manifold and centre box an a back box of unknown origin, this combination gives just the right balance. Replacing the heater was fun, but it did give me the opportunity to refit the immobiliser in a position that cannot be accessed by any would-be thieves. In 2000 when I'd owned the car four years I added up then total amount spent on the car including purchase price but excluding fuel, tax and insurance and it added up to £8888.88 - very strange!
